Stars and views are often seen as vanity metrics, but they can still be nice milestones to stop and reflect back on how far you have come. This week cilium/cilium hit 20k Github stars and the eBPF Documentary will cross 100k views by the end of the week. When I joined Isovalent a little over 2 years ago, Cilium was at 10k stars and the eBPF documentary wasn't even an idea yet. For projects that are 9 and 10 years old, it is impressive to see the interest in them not only growing but accelerating!

My colleague Nico wrote a predictions for the second decade of Kubernetes blog and the most obvious one to me is "eBPF Will Be Ever-Present". A decade in and eBPF has become a foundational technology that every project and product is either being built on or replatforming onto and Cilium is doing the same for cloud native networking. Another decade from now the stars and views won't matter, but I'm sure that both Cilium and eBPF will continue to be crucial technologies. I'm finally back in Berlin after our offsite and have lots of bags and stories to unpack so let’s 🐝 -gin.
